Toyota Camry power windows and doors dont work!Did your Toyota Camry power windows and doors suddenly stop working? I'll fill you in on how to change the fuse for a 1996 Toyota Camry power windows and doors. The fuse is not immediately visible when you remove the coin tray, but it IS in the same fuse box. First I'd recommend going to your local auto parts store and picking one up BEFORE you tear apart your car to change it out. The fuse you will need is a 30amp female maxi fuse. The one I picked up is a 'Buss Fuses - FMX-30', but the brand shouldn't matter at all. The fuse will be PINK. See the picture below. Once you have the fuse in your hand, you'll need to find a screwdriver and a 10mm socket & wrench (an extension will come in very handy as well). Start by removing the coin tray on the left side of the steering wheel. Next remove the socket that the coin tray sits in, it should be fairly apparent how it comes out, there are just a couple screws holding it in that are visible as soon as you remove your coin tray. After you get the coin tray holder out, another couple screws become visible, remove them, along with 2 others on the left side of the steering wheel (we are removing the entire lower dash panel under the steering wheel). The top screw on the left side is hidden under a small pop-out blank cover, the lower screw you will be able to see by simply bending down under the bottom of the dash section. This whole panel should come off as soon as you have all of these screws removed. If it doesn't want to come off, you missed a screw or 2, look harder. Once this panel is off, look at your fuse box. Now look to the right of the large group of fuses in the main panel, behind the A/C air duct. You should see 3 square fuses, 2 green and one pink. The pink fuse is in the middle between the green ones and is your power window and door lock fuse.
This part gets a little tricky; because the fuses are behind the A/C air duct they are very difficult to reach and remove/replace. Right where the dash panel you removed meets the upper dash panel the air duct has a union and can be pulled apart. On the outer edge you will see a small rivet, which simply pulls straight out. This is NOT the only piece holding the air duct in, but at this point the air duct would move enough for me that I could reach my skinny fingers in and pull out the old fuse. The new fuse was much more difficult to put back in after the old one was removed, but I managed. This may be easier to accomplish with a pair of needle nose pliers or similar instruments. I did not look into further removing the A/C duct, but I don't believe it would be terribly difficult to remove it completely at this point if you simply can not get the fuse back in, and if someone has done this and can give some insight to me on it I can update this how-to with that information as well. Put everything back on in reverse order. The only thing that may stump you a bit is a ground wire that is connected to the bottom right screw that holds the dash panel on. Just make sure to put it back between the dash panel and the holder bracket that the panel mounts to if your car has the wire. I do not take any responsibility for anything you manage to break following my instructions. I did not have a camera on me when I did this fuse change, but if anyone follows this how-to and takes pictures for me I would be very happy to update the article and include them. This how-to was written for a 1996 Toyota Camry, and may be valid for a number of years around this year model but I cant promise anything. If you use this how-to and find that your year model is the same, please let me know and I will include that information here as well.

Awesome
This information is awesome. My toyota camry 95 XLE Power Windows all of sudden stopped working. I did not know anything about car and I took it to one car mechanic shop on Saturday and they tried 2 hours but they were not able to identify the problem and they told me to come next day on Monday. I searched on net and as per this article I bought FMX from Advanced Auto parts shop and replaced my FMX fuse in the car as described here. It worked perfect. Thanks for all your efforts putting here with photos. You saved me atleast $150 amount. Great effort.
Thanks
Thank you very much for your posting, it is awsome, I changed the fuse of my boyfriend's car (Toyota Camry 1995) without problems, he was unbelievable happy!!! Thanks again.
BIG THANKS
thanks for the help i just took my dash off and fix my window and this is coming from a woman that tries to do things on my own. SO THANKS FOR SAVING MONEY FOR ME.
Fantastic!
Your instructions are fantastic. That your information is so much more complete than the owners manual is amazing, but do you realize the information is not any more detailed in the full repair manual than in the Owners Manual for the car? You are awesome. Thanks so much. Readers, believe the comments, the directions make it easy!
Great instructions
I had no idea how to get to this fuse until I came across this post. Thank you! You saved me a lot of frustration.
Power Windows/Locks not working
Thank you!
I had a feeling it was a fuse but, I couldn't find one that was related to the problem. After looking at your post I went under my dash found it, and saw that it was blown. After running up to napa (I bought 2). After that everything worked like a charm. Thank you so much for the post and the pics. Excellent!
Thanks
Thanks for the detailed instructions. I was able to get the fuse replaced by myself today.

YOUR AWESOME....I would never figured this out!!....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Can't Find The 3 Square Fuses
Thank you so much for this informaton. It is fabulous to know, however, I have taken panels off my 1990 Toyota Camry, purchased the FMX-30 Fuse but can not find the 3 square fuses. Are the 3, two green 1 pink fuses in the same area as the regular fuses located on the drivers side kick panel? I too want to celebrate my success in accomplising this. Maybe I have not torn enought of the panel off, but I don't want to tear apart unnecessarily. Please help.....
Thanks a ton!
I never would have found this in a million years! I used your directions for my 1994 Camry amd it worked fine.
By the way, after I took out the plastic rivet, I took the entire a/c duct out easily. If you carefully pull out the connection at the top, you can swing it forward (toward you), and then it easily pulls out from the back connection. The only hard part is getting it back in!
Thanks again.
Your instructions were good as gold
Excellent advise my friend. This morning my camry (96) power locks/windows stopped working. I googled and got your advise, headed to Napa Auto Parts and got a new fuse for $3.20
Took me 20 mins to open up, and remove the busted fuse.
And like you said, putting it in was the hard part, took around 30 mins. Finally it fit in correctly.
10 more minutes to close up.
All in all, a great piece of advise.
Thanks, Binod
Thank-you
Great instructions, Would have never found it without you. The Haynes Repair manual was no help.
Thanks again
Thanks. I have no idea why
Thanks. I have no idea why they would put a fuse where its not easily accessible. Hopefully i find it there.....

If anybody performs this repair, and has a digital camera, please email some pictures to obrith so he can publish them here!!
Son of a B
I can't say how sweet this post is. I work retail, know nothing about cars and have no time to take my car in for something that seems so stupid to have looked at. It was kind of a pain in the @$$ getting the fuse back in, but I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders once I got it in and found it fixed the problem. Thanks again for this EXTREMELY helpful post.
Problem solved
It works. Your help was invaluable, I can't thank you enough. I did end up pulling the A/C duct out a little to get to the fuse. This information is well written and easy to follow.
BIG Thanks you

96 Door/Window fuse repair
Thanks! I had to do this repair several times because our back window was rolled down. When I opened up the wire conduit to the back door I found three severed wires and two with exposed wire. Nice work Toyota. A few years ago we had to totally rewire the front door conduit. We also have a Siena and I don't think we will be buying a Toyota next time. Thanks again - this was an excellent post that saved me hundreds of dollars.
